What is a Car Share ?

Carsharing is becoming increasingly popular across the UK with Edinburgh having the biggest Carshare outside of London with around 300 cars. Its easy to use, cuts down massively on costs and helps our tiny roads become free of parked cars. We are doing things a little differently in Anstruther by also running a Rideshare for commuters going to St Andrews and Dundee.

  • Initially a pool of 2 cars - a 5 and a 7 seater
  • Centrally parked (within about 5 mins walk of all housing)
  • Pay for time booked and distance travelled - monthly billing
  • Booked by the hour (or day), available 24/7
  • Book on the internet
  • Uses telematics, smart card access
  • A 5 day a week commuter rideshare to St Andrews and Dundee

How does it work ?

1) Car share

  • Join – sign contract, pass DVLA check
  • Book – internet (or phone)
  • Access – smart card
  • Use - for an hour or a few days
  • Return to parking base – trip record

2) Rideshare

  • Join - sign contract and pass DVLA check unless non - driver
  • Book your seat a day or a year in advance and from 1 to 5 days a week
  • Travel at a regular set time (for example leave Anstruther at 8am and Dundee at 6pm)
  • Enjoy the social...
